GAPANG: (TAGALOG) NOUN: CRAWL; ACT OF CRAWLING

​GAPANG is the brainchild of band members Joy Legason, Jay Jumawan and Carlo Garcia, all of whom are veterans of the Philippine metal scene from as far back as 1994 and who are also past/current members of Barabbas, Descant Gott, Basalt Shrine, Badburn and Bought by Blood.

In 2017, the trio decided to try out new avenues of heavy music. In so doing, they gravitated towards sludge/doom as their new weapon of choice.

The band released a series of EPs including "MABAGAL, MABIGAT AT MADUMI" (2018) & "A SMIRK TO THE POSTURING" (2019). Their first full-length album "KONTRASISMO" was released in 2020 followed by the release of the single "PERMANENCE" in 2021.

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, GAPANG returned to the studio and is currently busy putting the finishing touches of their yet-untitled second album which will contain 9-10 new songs that will be a far cry from their initial album.

Music-wise, the new material will be more aggressive and will have a far more potent vitriol lyrically, with topics ranging from mass stupidity, the current culture war, mental & social depravity, social engineering, and political corruption.

​

The music has shifted to an angrier and pissed-off attack utilizing crossover/thrash/crust aspects mixed with unrelenting doom/Sludge dirge.

GAPANG is Carlo Garcia on drums, Joy Legason on bass & vocals, and Jay Jumawan on guitars & vocals. The band anticipates releasing their second album around April or May 2024.
